SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and maintain studio labs within the Department of Art & Art History.

·       Lead the Department’s Health and Safety Program development and implementation. Coordinate and comply with the DA&AH Health and Safety program for all studio areas.  Assist in the operational inventory of supplies and equipment related to Health and Safety.  Assist all instructors with technical concerns related to Health and Safety.  Serve as Registered OSHA Waste Manager for the department. 

·       Manage safe operation, maintenance and organization of the department’s studio labs' (Ceramics, Sculpture, 2-D and 3-D Foundations, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Time-Based Media).
Supervise and maintain functioning of all equipment and machinery in the areas (including but not limited to: digital printing labs, wood working equipment, electric kilns, enlargers, presses, gas kilns, welding equipment, clay mixers and pugmills, wood shop equipment, fork lift, sandblaster, potters’ wheels, metal working equipment, all power tools and small hand tools); preventative maintenance for all equipment; research ordering and receiving of parts for equipment repairs; receiving and installation of all equipment; inventory organization, maintenance and supervision related equipment check-out. Liaison with appropriate UAB services for work orders. Organize equipment and space for safe, clean orderly and effective use. This includes instructing students in proper cleanup and studio maintenance. 

·       Assist and instruct students in safe use and proper operation of studio equipment

·       Support classroom instruction processes. 

·       Hiring, orientation and supervision of work-study students.

·       Order lab supplies and equipment for department and reimburses faculty for supply purchases.

·       Monitor usage and schedule regular maintenance for the departmental van.

·       Assist Chair of the Department of Art and Art History as needed with special projects

Job DescriptionSupervises and coordinates scheduling and utilization of department laboratories. Provides technical, administrative and logistical instruction and support. Maintains equipment, materials and supply inventories. Controls equipment usage/sharing by other departments; ensures accurate record keeping and procedures are in place. No less than seventy percent of the incumbent’s time should be spent in a supervisory or coordinating role. May conduct lab procedures, tests and perform research assistance. Ensures quality control and follow-up procedures are developed and implemented. Collects and analyzes data and prepares a variety of special and recurring analyses and reports. Lab Supervisors shall typically be found in labs where supervision of more than 3 full-time regular staff members would be required. Supervises, trains, and monitors work assignments of lab personnel. May oversee graduate student and postdoctoral fellow day to day activities in a lab. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate publications and communication/interaction with subject matter experts.

(Annual Salary Range: $37,107.20 - $47,694.40, $58,260.80)
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Science or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Art Studio background is preferred. The ability to lift up to 50lbs is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of Oracle payment requests and purchase order experience is preferred.
